Saturday Morning Coffee & a Side Hustle: My 1-Hour Routine to Build Financial Freedom
Saturday morning. ☕
Some people start it with cartoons, others with chores… I start it with coffee and my side hustle.
I usually wake up about an hour and a half before heading out with my daughter to her horse-riding lesson at 9:15 a.m. For me, it took some discipline to start getting up earlier on Saturdays. But after a while, I realized what a privilege it is! Everything is calm and peaceful, the family is still asleep, and the sun is just beginning to stretch its rays as if to say good morning. 🌞 That quiet moment feels like a gift—and it makes my weekend feel longer and far more satisfying.
Now, during the time I reserve for my business, don’t picture me in some fancy office with a double-shot latte and three computer screens. It’s usually me at the kitchen table, half awake, with yesterday’s dishes still in the sink. 😅
But here’s the magic: that one focused hour I carve out on a Saturday morning has more impact on my future than a whole week at my 9–5.
Why?
Because it’s my hour.
No meetings. No bosses. No emails marked “urgent.”
Just me, my laptop, and the dream of not stressing about bills every month.
My 1-Hour Saturday Routine
Here’s what it looks like:
- First 5 minutes – Sip coffee, open my notes, and decide what ONE task I’ll focus on.
- Next 45 minutes – Get it done. If I didn’t finish my blog post during the week, that’s my priority. Otherwise, I might schedule an email, tweak my Facebook lead ad, or draft new short video scripts.
- Final 10 minutes – Plan tomorrow’s quick win and close the laptop.
That’s it. Simple.
Not 8 hours. Not some “hustle ‘til you drop” grind. Just one hour a day.
And let’s be honest… the alternative is to sleep in for one more hour.
Now, I’ll be the first to admit—sleep is tempting. 😴 But here’s the truth: an extra hour of sleep might feel good in the moment, while an extra hour invested in my business feels good for the future. And once I’ve had that coffee and ticked off one meaningful task, I actually feel more energized than if I’d stayed in bed. That’s why my weekends don’t just feel longer—they feel more productive and satisfying.
Why Affiliate Marketing Fits Perfectly
That’s the real difference: an hour of extra sleep is gone the second you wake up. But an hour spent on your side hustle? That builds momentum, confidence, and long-term financial freedom.
And that’s exactly why affiliate marketing is such a good fit for busy 9–5 professionals with families. It doesn’t demand 40 hours a week or a massive investment. Instead, it rewards consistency—those small, steady chunks of time where you move the needle forward.
You don’t need inventory. You don’t need to be “techy.”
You just need a plan, a clear focus, and the discipline to show up—even if it’s just for one hour a day.
Think about it:
- In a month, that’s 4–6 hours of focused work.
- In a year, that’s 60+ hours invested in your business, not your boss’s.
And the best part? My kids still get their pancakes. My spouse still gets family time. And I get to move one step closer to escaping the 9–5 trap without burning myself out.
Your Saturday Challenge
So here’s my challenge to you:
Next Saturday morning, instead of hitting snooze for another hour, grab your coffee and invest that time into your future. Pick one small task—write a post, learn a new skill, or simply brainstorm your next step.
But if you’re not sure where to start, that’s where I recommend The Iceberg Effect by Dean Holland.
This book is like a shortcut—it explains why most side hustles fail, and how affiliate marketing gives you the best chance to succeed, even if you only have an hour a day. It’s beginner-friendly, simple to follow, and it shows you exactly how to turn small blocks of time into a real path toward financial freedom.
👉 You can grab your free copy here: The Iceberg Effect (just cover shipping & handling).
Trust me—your Saturday morning coffee will taste even better when you know it’s fueling your dreams, not just your energy levels. ☕🚀

Martin, I love this! That picture of coffee, a quiet kitchen, and one focused hour says so much about what real progress looks like. It’s not about grinding 8 hours a day—it’s about showing up consistently, even in small windows, and protecting that time like it matters (because it does).
The way you framed energy invested vs. energy spent really hit me—an extra hour of sleep is gone in the moment, but an hour toward your dream builds momentum for the future. Such a great reminder that freedom is built one intentional hour at a time.
Going to sleep 1 hour earlier and here’s back your sleep hour. After all, you know, 1 hour is just 1 Netflix episode less. 😄
