“I Don’t Know What to Post”: How to Beat Creator’s Block and Show Up Anyway

Let’s be honest: nothing is more frustrating than staring at a blank screen with a head full of ideas… and still not knowing what to post.

If you’re anything like me (or Alex — my favorite affiliate marketing persona, see “Let AI Craft Your Marketing Avatar For You In A Snap“), you’ve probably said it before:

“I want to grow my audience… but I don’t know what to say.”

You sit down with good intentions. You’ve set aside time. Maybe even brewed the perfect coffee.

And then…

Blank. 😶

Your brain taps out. Your fingers freeze. And the content you wanted to create quietly dies in your Drafts folder.

That, my friend, is the cruel game of creator’s block — and it’s one of the most common silent killers of momentum in affiliate marketing.

But here’s the good news:

👉 You can beat it. Even on your worst days.

Let’s talk about how.

❄️ Why We Freeze (It’s Not What You Think)

Most people think they freeze because they “don’t have ideas.”

But that’s rarely the truth.

If you’re like most beginner content creators, you probably have too many ideas… and no clear structure.

Your mind floods with:

  • What if I say the wrong thing?
  • What if this content doesn’t land?
  • What if nobody cares?

And so, instead of posting imperfectly… we post nothing.

🧰 Tools to Beat the Block

Here are 3 simple strategies to break through creator’s block and keep showing up for your audience — especially when you’re building an online business:

1. Create a Content Prompt List

Don’t try to come up with ideas on the spot. Instead, build a running list of prompts you can fall back on. For example:

  • “One thing I wish I knew before I started affiliate marketing…”
  • “What I would do if I had to start over with no audience and $0.”
  • “Here’s the truth no one tells you about [insert pain point].”

2. Batch on Your Best Days

When you feel inspired, don’t stop at one post. Create 3-5 drafts in one sitting. On your off days, you’ll thank your past self.

3. Accept Imperfection

You don’t need to go viral.
You just need to connect.

Post the thing that feels real, not perfect. Because consistency builds trust. And trust builds your business, see “What “The Little Prince” Teaches Us About Affiliate Marketing“.

Oh! And this reminds me another strategy I have used successfully before and that was given by one of my coach at Internet Profits. By forcing it a little you can maybe fit this in the above third point : “Accept Imperfection”. Here it is below.

🔁 Just Keep Showing Up

Look at my post : “I’m Taking A Blog Pause“.

When I started writing that one, I had no idea what to say. That week, I almost quit and skipped our usual Saturday’s post share.

But you know what?
I stopped overthinking, emptied my mind, and just started writing.

Anything.

And then, slowly, as I saw the first words appear on the screen, ideas started to flow — almost like magic. I just decided to write whatever came to mind — even if it felt unimportant or a little random at first.

So if you’re staring at a blank screen today, put your fingers on your keyboard and start typing. Just do it!

Here’s something I remind myself often:

You’re not here to impress. You’re here to help.

Try this :

  • Pick one person (like Alex) and speak to their biggest challenge.
  • Share a quick tip, story, or thought that would help them take the next step.
  • Hit publish — even if it feels small.

That’s what real creators do.

That’s what marketers who get results do.

🙌 Final Thought

Creator’s block is real. But it doesn’t have to stop you.

You don’t need endless inspiration. You need a system, a mindset shift, and a proven path to follow.

That’s exactly what helped me — and it started with reading The Iceberg Effect.

This book opened my eyes to how affiliate marketing really works behind the scenes… and how most people (me included!) were focusing on all the wrong things.

If you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed, do yourself a favor:

👉 Grab your free copy of The Iceberg Effect here (just cover shipping).

It’s the book that helped me go from spinning in circles… to building real momentum.

You’ll get:

  • The physical book delivered to your door
  • The audiobook version
  • A masterclass breakdown
  • And 7 mystery bonuses (including a surprise $997 gift)

Let today be the day you stop overthinking… and start building something real. 💥

This post was such a breath of fresh air! That blank screen moment? I know it way too well. I write for my own blog where I help folks 40+ become their own health advocates—and some days, it’s like my brain pulls the emergency brake the second I sit down to write. Or I have too many ideas and I am all over the place.

I love your reminder to “post the thing that feels real, not perfect.” That mindset shift alone is a game changer. I’ve found that when I stop trying to teach something and just share a story or insight from my own journey—like struggling to stretch one morning or trying a new anti-inflammatory recipe—it connects so much more.

Curious—do you ever voice record ideas on the go? I’ve started doing that on walks and it’s helped me capture thoughts before they disappear into the ether.

Appreciate this one so much—bookmarking it for those frozen days

    Hi Martin,
And that is something we tend to forget: we sometimes need to either take a pause or step back.

It’s not necessarily about not knowing WHAT to write so much as stopping the little hamster in our head from going crazy because of the “so many things” jumbling in our mind that all want to come out at the same time!
Great to be back and very pertinent post for me!

Hi Martin – Ohh my goodness, you read my mind today! I have so many ideas for content in blogs and in short form video and in other areas I almost don’t know where to start. This leaves me with a blank page in my mind and a blank page in front of me. thank you for your very good and practical tips of getting me out of that block. I’m going to reread those tips right now so that I can prepare for my next content to be delivered. Your timing for me could not have been better and for that I think you!

Your tips, like keeping a prompt list and accepting imperfection, are super helpful. I’ve been stuck trying to create content for my side hustle, and your advice to just start typing anything really clicks. What’s one prompt you love using when you’re stuck? Thanks for the inspiration!
