The last two weeks weren’t the most productive weeks at all for my affiliate marketing business.

I was nearly absent from social medias, absent for my blog as well.

Where I live, we had two non-consecutive days of huge snow drops with strong winds, call them days of snow storms if your prefer.

They were such that even my children’s schools had to close. OK, schools today are not as tolerant as when I was a kid, but understand that it takes more than a few snowflakes to close them.

Needless to say that my physical training is done for the next 6 months now as I shoveled enough snow to create a motel for tourists curious to live the Disney’s Frozen experience with Princess Elsa and Olaf the snowman.

Regarding training, I don’t understand why shoveling snow and scraping ice from our car’s windows have not been made yet a National sport here in Canada. I’m sure it would have made a great demo for the Olympics.

Anyway, snow storms weren’t the only reason I slowed down on my business: I was also actively and anxiously searching a new 9 to 5 job.

The engineering consulting firm where I’ve been employed since 2018 is about to be sold. My most recent contract and project ended in November.

They attempted to find me a new project, but with most of the staff having already left the sinking ship, they couldn’t secure a new client quickly enough to cover my salary.

As a result, they had to release me. My turn to leave the ship.

Experiencing job loss firsthand reinforced something I had already suspected: putting all your trust in a salary is a dangerous game.

That’s when I truly saw the power of having additional income streams and skills that put me in control of my financial future.

Let me elaborate on this a little more.

Today, job security is practically nonexistent.

A salaried employee is always at the mercy of decisions made at the top, and those decisions will inevitably prioritize the company’s interests over the individual.

Layoffs, downsizing, and restructurings happen without warning, leaving employees vulnerable to sudden financial instability.

Relying solely on a paycheck is a risky gamble, but having a side hustle can serve as a safety net.

By building an additional income stream, one can create a buffer against financial uncertainty and gain more control over their future.

🚫 Downside of Organic Traffic: Slow growth, highly competitive, and requires consistent effort over a long period to see meaningful results. Additionally, algorithm changes and platform limitations can make organic reach unpredictable, requiring constant adaptation.

Which One is Right for You?

If you want fast results, paid ads are the way to go—especially if you have more money than time to invest in your business, as is often the case when working a full-time job.

On the other hand, if you have more time than money, organic traffic can work—but be prepared for slow and steady progress. It requires consistent effort, patience, and adaptability as you build an audience over time.

The real magic happens when you combine both strategies, using organic methods for long-term growth while leveraging paid ads for immediate traction. But let’s be real—if you’re living paycheck to paycheck with limited time to manage a business, focusing on paid traffic is a must-have strategy and one I sure want to push further as I get into the first months of my new job.
